Super Double Coupons Coming Up!

If you haven't yet heard, I am excited to announce that Super Double Coupon week will be coming up on Wednesday, January 4th at Harris Teeter!


Starting Wednesday and lasting through Tuesday night, January 10th, all coupons between $1.00-$1.99 will double in value. Normally, only coupons less than $1.00 double, however Super Double coupons week is very special in that your higher value coupons will have a chance to double. The limit is 20 coupons to double per day, so if you need to use more than that, you should go back another day.


I suggest starting now pulling all your $1.00-$1.99 coupons that you would like to use. I also suggest arranging them by department in the store to help with organization. I simply make piles on my living room floor or kitchen table once I have pulled all the coupons I'd like to use. See my older post, "How I Get Ready for Super Double Coupons Week" for details on how I prepare for special shopping events like this.

Also, don't forget to start printing coupons now, too. You can print some now and then print more on January 1st, since many will reset. See the left of my website and click, "See all coupons" to see all the options you have for printable coupons. There are many good ones on there, so be sure to print now before they sell out!

If you need to order any coupons, check EBAY. I often find great deals on specific coupons there.


Finally, remember your Sunday paper this Sunday, January 1st, because from what I hear there are sure to be lots of great coupons!

Easy CVS Zyrtec Money Maker

Have you seen this week's CVS ad? It came out on Monday and you have until Saturday night (Dec. 31st) to take advantage of some great deals.


According to this week's ad, Zyrtec (5 ct.) is on sale for $5.99. You pay $5.99 out of pocket for it, but if you use your CVS Extra Care Bucks card you will get an ExtraBucks reward for $5.99 back! You can use that $5.99 to buy anything else in the store. I plan to buy Theraflu with it, which is also on sale plus I have coupons.


To make the Zyrtec deal a money maker, you will need to also use a coupon. You can do the deal with no coupons at all, but if you can get your hands on a coupon for Zyrtec, that will make the deal even sweeter. I searched the Delly's Deals Coupon Database for Zytrec coupons and several came up. Here is a link to one on the Zytrec website for $2.00 off (there is also $4 off one but it's for a larger count than 5 count). If you use the $2 off coupon, you will only pay $3.99 out of pocket but you will still get back the full $5.99 Extra Care Buck reward, so you essentially made $2! I love Zyrtec for allergy season- around April/May/June, I can't live without it!


Also note that Theraflu is on sale and there have been a ton of matching coupons for Theraflu in the past couple of month's Sunday newspapers. Theraflu is on sale for $4.77 which is already a good price. If you buy two, you get $3 in Extra Care Bucks back. So, two would cost $9.54. I also have a coupon for $4 off two in my binder so that brings my out of pocket cost down to $5.54 for the Theraflu. I will then apply the $5.99 in ExtraBucks that I earned from my Zyrtec purchase which will make my Theraflu free. Not only is it free, but I will get $3 in Extra Care Bucks back after I pay for the Theraflu! I can either save the $3 for a future purchase or spend it now on something else in the store. 


As I always say, get your medicines BEFORE you are sick! If you wait until you are sick, you will surely pay full price for medicines that you could have gotten for FREE!

Don't Forget the Batteries

See bottom of post for two deals on batteries that are still going on this week!

I still remember those Christmases where my brothers and I woke up, opened our toys and were so excited to play with them- only to realize that my parents had forgotten the batteries!


When this occurred, we had two options and neither was pretty. We either waited until the next day to get to play with the toy OR my parents ran to the closest convenience store and grabbed batteries for about four or five times the normal cost.


Don't let this happen to you on Christmas Day! Batteries are one of those items that you can almost always find a deal on, provided you get them BEFORE you need them. I keep AA and AAA batteries on hand at all times. Then, I just buy them again when I see them go on sale. This way, I always have them and never have to rush to purchase more.


I love buying name brand batteries, too. They last longer and I've found that when I get them on sale and/or use coupons, they cost less than the store brand batteries. 


For example, I saw AA batteries at the Dollar Tree the other day, 2 in a pack for $1. I calculated that to get 16 it would cost me $8.00. These were definitely off-brand batteries, too, so no telling how long they last (I'm betting not long). 


During the last Super Double coupon week I got 6-8 count packs of Duracell AA batteries for free. I also use the coupons for Duracell that come in the Proctor and Gamble coupon insert each month for additional savings. Harris Teeter usually offers a digital coupon for batteries as well in their EVIC coupons.


Here are two deals going on for batteries right now:


Harris Teeter Saturday Special Dec. 24th only- 24 count AA or AAA batteries for $3.97 (Harris Teeter brand- I've used these before and they work well)

Staples- Get batteries basically free using your rewards card. Buy them now at full price (around $12 for 16 pack AA or AAA) and get the total price back on your rewards card in 4-6 weeks! You can then use that money to buy others things in Staples for free like printer ink, paper, running copies, etc.) I love doing that. This deal lasts through December 24th.


There is no need to overpay for batteries if you plan ahead! Don't get caught empty-handed on Christmas morning!

Charity Couponing Workshop Tonight!

I just wanted to do one final reminder about the charity workshop for Ms Leia tonight at the hospital in the SEAHEC auditorium. Workshop will last from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and will cover the basics of couponing and how to cut your grocery bill by 50%.


Proceeds will go to benefit a local young teacher fighting breast cancer. Ms. Leia is a teacher at Children's Learning Center on Darlington Avenue and was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time Fall of 2011. She has a young daughter (2 or 3 years old). My Sweet CVS Deal on Medicine

There's nothing worse than waking up sick and realizing you have no medicine in your cabinets! Not only do you feel bad but you're going to go to the store (or send your hubby or wife) and pay whatever price you must to get some relief. This leads to overpaying since people often pay full price when they have to buy medicine immediately.


With cold season upon us, I recommend being proactive and buying medicine BEFORE you get sick and when they're on sale! When I need medicines, I go to the drugstore chains to get the good deals. Often they are running sales and it's easy to look through my binder for matching coupons. Also, you can use my coupon database to find coupons on specific medicines. For instance, tonight I wanted to price check Tylenol. So I went to my coupon database and typed "Tylenol" in the search bar. Sure enough, several printable coupons for Tylenol popped up and I printed two of them and put them in my binder. Now, it turns out that Tylenol wasn't on sale, so I saved the coupons in my binder in the medicines section and I will wait until a sale on Tylenol pops up before I use them.


Tonight I went to CVS and what was on sale was Triaminic, which, like Tylenol, is an acetaminophen based pain reliever for children. I happened to have 2 coupons, each for $3 off,  in my binder for Triaminic. Since it was on sale AND I had a coupon, I knew I was in business! This is where it pays not to be brand loyal, as I wanted Tylenol but since it wasn't on sale I went with a different name brand.

CVS was running a deal on Triaminic where it cost 2 for $12. With my two $3 off coupons, that would make it 2 for $6 ($3.00 a piece). 


They then had an Extra Care Bucks deal where if I bought two Triaminics I would get a $3 Extra Care Bucks reward back. So, I bought two and paid $6 plus tax out of pocket. I then got back a coupon for $3 to spend inside of CVS on something else.


I decided to do a second transaction so I could use my $3 rewards coupon to pay for my next purchase. I  grabbed some Theraflu warming relief severe cold medicine for my husband and I. Although we are not currently sick, I like having it around for when we do get sick. It was regular price $6.49 but I had a $3 off manufacturer's coupon from the Sunday paper a few weeks back. I also was able to use my $3 off extra care buck from the purchase of the Triaminic. That made my total $.49 for the Theraflu, which normally costs $6.49! What a great deal! I did have to pay $.45 tax, since the sales tax is configured on the original amount, not what I paid after coupons. Bummer.


So, in all I got 2 big 4 oz bottles of Triaminic children's pain reliever AND 1 Theraflu Severe Cold Medicine for my husband and I all for a total of $6.49 plus tax! Note that one CVS brand acetaminophen costs almost that much, so I know I'm getting a good deal because I got three name brand medicines for that price.

Also, with the holidays and holiday travel coming up, I do suggest keeping medicines in a plastic bag (I put my children's names on the bags, along with the dosage cups and syringes so they don't get lost). This way, when you travel, you can easily throw the medicines in your suitcases. Don't forget your medicines because it never fails that someone will get sick while you are out of town and sure enough you will head to the store and pay full price for medicines that are sitting at home in your cabinet!


If you want to get the deal I got on the Triaminic, it's going on through Saturday night at CVS, so you have all week! If you don't have the $3 off coupon, I did see a tearpad at Walgreens for $2 off of one Triaminic. It's a manufacturer's coupon so it can be used at any store, not just Walgreens.

Star News vs News and Observer: No Coupons til January!

You know Christmas and New Years is near when there are no more coupons! 


According to Southern Savers, there should not be any more coupons until January. I know this is disappointing to some of you, but take the time to clean out and organize your binders and oh, yes, RELAX and enjoy the holidays!


The good news is that when the coupons return in January, there are supposed to be lots of inserts filled with coupons!

This morning on the Delly's Deals radio show I talked about quite a few random deals and offers, including details on my coupon binder giveaway! Below is a synopsis, including links to the weekly grocery store deals!

Smithfield Bacon (normally very expensive) is on sale at Harris Teeter. Get it for only $2.33 with the $1.00 off coupon.


Iams Dogfood is running a promo at Harris Teeter where you get $7 loaded onto your VIC card to spend for every $35 you spend on Iams through January 3rd, 2012.


Gain Laundry Detergent is on sale for $4.77 at Harris Teeter. Use a $1.00 digital coupon to make it only $3.77. This is better than the Sam's Club price, which is 9.4 per ounce which would make it $4.70 at Sams Club. So, it's more at Sams PLUS you have to buy a bigger quantity all at once!


I Am Day Spa and Salon is offering a deal where you buy three gift cards and get one free. Minimum is $.50 per card, so for example, buy $150 and get $200 worth with no limit. Keep in mind the savings over a year! Call 395-1335 for details or to take advantage.

Carolina Beach McDonalds has remodeled and is doing $.59 hamburgers and $.69 cheeseburgers today through 5 p.m.!

Using SavingStar to Earn Money

SavingStar is a neat digital coupon service that I hope you will give a second look!


With SavingStar, you sign up online at their website at www.savingstar.com. After registering (very simple and easy) and entering your store savings card numbers, you can click coupons that will immediately go to your store shopper cards. They stay there until they expire (about 3-5 weeks). When you purchase those items, your savings will appear on your receipt but they will not come off your total bill. Instead, your savings will go to your account online with SavingStar and when you have at least $5, you can redeem the funds by requesting they be sent to Paypal (online bank) or you can get an Amazon.com gift certificate. There is also an option to donate the funds to American Forests. Either way, it really is like earning money without doing any extra work other than clicking the items you will buy.


The stores in our area (Wilmington, NC) that accept SavingStar coupons are: Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion, CVS and Rite Aid. Wal-Mart, Piggly Wiggly, and Walgreens were not listed on their website as stores that will accept the SavingStar digital coupons.


Sometimes SavingStar seems to go through periods where they don't have very many good coupons but I believe they are getting better. In fact, today I received an email saying they had added new coupons. Below are some of the great coupons that I clicked and added to my account:

Also, you can use paper coupons along with the SavingStar coupons, although SavingStar does not promote that.


You can also easily print a list of all coupons that you have clicked to keep in your binder. Just look to the upper right and click "print list."

Upcoming Workshops and Charity Workshop for Ms. Leia

Sorry that I have been missing in action! I've been busy delivering binder orders this weekend and through Tuesday but I plan to post more as I have wrapped up most of the deliveries. About two years ago, she found out she had breast cancer when her daughter was just a few months old. She received treatment and all was well until this fall when the cancer returned to another part of her body. Now she is going back for more treatments. Children's Learning Center is hosting a charity workshop for her at the New Hanover Regional Hospital SEAHEC Auditorium. I will be teaching it and the cost is $10 with all proceeds going to a fund to help Ms. Leia pay the many medical bills she will have. 20% of binder and accessory sales will go towards the fund as well. Burger King Free Fry Day!

Burger King is doing a free french fry day on Friday, December 16th. They are doing this to introduce their new fries to the world!

No purchase is necessary but while you're there you may want to check out their delicious char-grilled burgers or their new soft serve ice cream (it's actually really good).

Star News vs. News and Observer

This week my Wilmington Star News newspaper had 1 Smart Source insert and my Raleigh News and Observer paper had both 1 Red Plum insert and 1 Smart Source insert.


Let's start with the Raleigh paper. The Red Plum insert was small but contained some nice coupons, especially on medicine.  I liked the Millstaone coffee $2 off coupon in particular. It also included Meaty Bone, Pup-Peroni, Dial NutriSkin Lotions, Loreal Eye Products, Keebler Crackers, Crest Whitestrips, Oral-B Toothbrushes and Replacement Heads, Duracell Batteries, Head and Shoulders, Axe Shower Gel, Axe Bodyspray, Dimetapp, Sundown Vitamins, Advil Adult and Children's products, and Robitussin.


The Raleigh Smart Source was a tad bit thicker than the Wilmington Smart Source. It contained coupons for: Cold Stone, Pillsbury, Cinnabon coffee, Totinos Pizza Rolls, Progresso Soups, Pistachio nuts, Dixie Crystals Sugar, Sorrento Cheese, Grean Giant Valley Steamers, Green Giant Frozen Vegetables, General Mills Cereals, Chex Mix, Betty Crocker Cookie Mix, Betty Crocker Cake Mix and Frosting, Cover Girl, Duke's Mayonnaise, Centrum Pro Nutrients, Centrum, Dentek, Cepacol, Jollytime Butter, Carolina Pride Bacon and Sausage, Target Purina Coupon, Benefiber.


So, as you can see, the Raleigh paper had two inserts, and the Raleigh Smart Source has more coupons than the Wilmington Smart Source. I would definitely shoot for only buying the Raleigh paper  if you can find it this morning.


Finally, note the Dixie Crystals Sugar coupon from both Smart Source inserts. It is for $.55 off and the sugar is on sale this week for $1.97 EVIC special for Harris Teeter. After the coupon doubles, the sugar only costs $.87 for a four pound bag. This is definitely the time of year to stock up on sugar!

I do this all the time and use the money to buy printer ink or other necessities from Staples.


Brawny Paper towels are on EVIC special right now at Harris Teeter. They're on sale for $5.47, but after coupon (print from my website- see left) for $.55 off doubles, you pay only $3.47 for 6 rolls! Great deal, because at $.72 a roll, you really can't beat that price.

Neat and Easy Vanity Cups, Plates, Napkins, and Bowls Deal

 I bought two packs of Vanity Fair Napkins, a pack of bowls and

a pack of plates for $1.80 yesterday at Harris Teeter.

Yesterday at Harris Teeter I saw lots of great sales and coupon match-ups! I think this Vanity paper products deal might be one of the best from this week.


Harris Teeter is running a promo where you get FREE Vanity Fair Plates or Bowls if you buy a package of Vanity Fair Napkins (40 or 100 count).


So, I bought a pack of Napkins so that I could get a pack of plates for free. Even better is the fact that the napkins are on sale for only $2.00 and you still get the free plates or bowls.


Even better is the fact that I had a coupon for $.55 off one pack of Vanity Fair Napkins, which doubled to $1.10. So, I paid $2.00-$1.10, which is $.90 for the Napkins and also got a pack of plates for FREE!!!


I had two of the coupons, so I did the deal twice and paid a total of $1.80 for two packs of napkins, a pack of plates, and a pack of bowls. That was a great deal!


Worth noting is that not even the Dollar Store can beat those prices! I often buy my paper products by waiting for sales and promos such as this, so I tend to get a better deal at the local grocery store than I would by shopping at WalMart or Dollar tree.

Still a great deal.

Binders are IN!!

After much waiting, the newly redesigned Delly's Deals couponing binders are IN!


If you pre-ordered one or if you would like to purchase one, you can drop by the Northeast Regional Library this Saturday, December 10th from 1:30-4:30 in the Pine Room to pick yours up.

Pantene Pro-V for 29 cents per bottle!

Christina P., from the Delly's Deals Facebook page shared an awesome deal that you can get at Food Lion that makes Pantene Pro-V only $.29 per bottle. Since the sales change tonight, if you want this deal you may need to get it today!


Pantene is on sale at Food Lion for $3.29 each. Proctor and Gamble is running a promo where if you spend $12 you get an automatic $3 off your total order.


So, Christina bought four bottles which totaled $13.16. She then got $3 off her total order, bringing her total down to $10.16.


Next she used a Food Lion Digital coupon (available online at Food Lion's website here) for $3 off two bottles. This brought the total down to $7.16.


She then used two coupons from the December Proctor and Gamble coupon insert, each being $3 off 2 bottles. Since she bought four bottles, she was able to redeem both coupons, saving her $6! That brought the total down to only $1.16 for ALL FOUR BOTTLES! That is $.29 per bottle.

Keep in mind, too, that even if you don't use Pantene, this is a great time of year to donate items to those in need. Shampoo is always a welcome donation and at $1.16 for four bottles, it certainly doesn't break the bank!

Star News vs. News and Observer

This week my Raleigh paper had one thick Smart Source insert and my Wilmington paper had two smaller inserts- a Smart Source and a Red Plum.


I'll start with the Wilmington Red Plum insert. It was paper-thin! There seemed to be more ads than coupons in it. I did see some fast food coupons for Subway, Hardees, and Dunkin Donuts. As for grocery coupons, there were Soft Pretzel, Folgers, Rhodes Bread, Loreal Shampoo and hair treatments, All Laundry Detergent, and Scope. Except for the All and the B1G1 free Subway coupons, there wasn't much to be excited about in my opinion.


Both papers had a Smart Source insert, with the Raleigh paper having a thicker Smart Source. The Raleigh Smart Source insert had coupons for Reynolds Parchment Paper, Krusteaz Muffin Mix, Hills Bros Cappuchino Mix, Campbells Soup and Spaghetti-Os, Cuties Oranges, Shick Razors, Shave Gel, Edge, and Skintimate, various Pillsbury, Corn Chex, Pom, Snyders Pretzels, Kleenex Hand Towels, Scott Bath Tissues, Carolina Pride Sausages, Sauer's Rub Griller or Marinade, John Freida, Luster White, Solo Cups, Plates or Bowls, Nancy's Frozen Appetizers, Kleenex tissues, Target frozen food coupon, Curel, Efferdent, TGI Fridays frozen meal, Smithfield Bacon, Scotch Brite Wipes, Neutrogena, Jergens, Colgate, Similasan, Gas X, Excedrin, Triaminic, Theraflu, Boston Market, Fleischman's Yeast, Karo or Argo Products, Sunsweet Diced Plums, Werther's Originals, Zegerid, MiraLax, Purina Snacks, K-Y Products, Bronkaid, Neo-Synephrine, Ziploc bags and containers, and Glade Products, Starter Logs, and Chuck-e-Cheese. Overall I was impressed with the selection and VALUE of the coupons in this insert, many being high value coupons that will double or that already were high.


The Wilmington Smart Source was a little smaller than the Raleigh Smart Source. It  had the Pillsbury coupons, Corn Chex, Shick, Edge and Skintimate Shave gels, Scott bath tissues, a Family Dollar Scott towel or tissue, Kleenex Hand Towels, Campbells, Jergens, Efferdent, Spaghetti Os, Carolina Pride Sausages, Sauer's Griller or Marinade, Similasan, Scotch-Brite, John Freida and Neutrogena, Smithfield Bacon, Snyders Pretzels, Reynold's Parchment Paper, Hills Bros Cappuchino, and Neutrogena Face Make-up and Chuck-e-Cheese. Missing were the Nancys, Solo Cups, Purina and Target coupons but the Wilmington paper had a few that were not in the Raleigh paper such as Longhorn coupons, Celestial Seasonings tea, and Samurai Asian Products coupons.

In summary, I think both papers had a good variety of coupons. If you want coupons for some local food places, don't miss the Star News this week. Personally, I suggest one of each newspaper today if you can get your hands on both. I bought two Raleigh and one Wilmington paper.

Sams Club Price Comparisons:


Food Lion is having a three day sale on Bounty, Charmin and Tide. I decided to compare those prices to what you would pay for comparable items at Sam's Club.


Food Lion Tide Orignal Scent- 50 oz for $4.99 which is 9.9 cents per ounce (225 ounces would cost you $13.45 versus $25.48 for 225 ounces at Sam's Club! That's a difference of $12.03 less from Food Lion. Keep in mind that the selection is greater at Food Lion, too and you don't have to buy as much at once. That Food Lion price doesn't even count you using coupons. If you use a coupon, the savings would be even greater.


Food Lion Bounty Paper Towels- $4.99 for 6 rolls ($.83 per roll)
Sams Club Bounty Paper Towels- $19.48 for 12 rolls ($1.62 per roll)
If you wanted 12 rolls at Food Lion it would cost you $9.98 versus $19.48 at Sams Club! Big difference, again, in favor of Food Lion. Granted, Sams says their rolls are bigger, but even accounting for that, the price was still less at Food Lion.


Food Lion Charmin Toilet paper- $5.99 for 12 rolls of Charmin ($.49 per roll)
Sams Club Charmin Toilet paper- $22.37 for 12 rolls of Charmin ($.62 per roll)
If you wanted 36 rolls at Food Lion, it would cost you $17.97 versus $22.37 at Sam's Club! That's a difference of $4.40 in favor of Food Lion again.


As you can see, warehouse clubs are RARELY the best deal and they often cause you to spend more at once, not to mention the membership fees. Sams Club does not take coupons here in Wilmington.

Make FREE Money By Buying Gift Cards!

Not only are restaurants offering holiday gift card deals, but so are several grocery chains!


Last week I posted about the Lowes Foods gift card deal. If you buy any combination of participating gift cards totalling $50, you will receive $5 off your next shopping order. According to the Lowes Foods website, participating card are Lowe's Hardware, Olive Garden, Kohl's, JC Penny, Red Lobster, Aeropostale, and iTunes. This deal actually ends on Saturday, December 3rd, so you only have one more day to get it!


However, the Food Lion gift card deal is even better and you have until December 13th to get it! If you buy any combination of $50 in gift cards from Food Lion, you will receive $10 off your next shopping trip! According to the Food Lion website, you can use any combination of available gift cards to qualify for the deal. Some of the cards listed included Lowes Hardware, ITunes, Bass Pro Shop, Office Max, Cracker Barrel, and Red Lobster, but they said others were available.


Keep in mind that even if you don't give gift cards away to others, if you shop at any of the participating stores throughout the year, it would be wise to pre-purchase some gift cards for when you WILL shop there, just to get the $10 grocery shopping money. For example, if you tend to buy clothes from JC Penny, go ahead and give yourself a clothes budget and buy $50 in gift cards now so you can get the $10 in free money from Food Lion. It says one coupon printed per transaction, so if you wanted $200 in gift cards from JC Penny, split up your order and pay $50 worth at a time until you get to $200 and you would get $40 in grocery money from Food Lion! Not only would you get the free grocery money but you'd already have your clothes budget for next year. 

You could even use the JC Penny gift cards to do your holiday shopping. Instead of paying with cash or credit card for your Christmas gifts go ahead and buy the JC Penny gift cards from Food Lion for your holiday shopping. That way, you will also earn the free grocery money!
